Today is Election Day. Two referendums on the ballot regarding libraries and schools are of great importance to our community. Carolina Park is slated to have a new 40,000 square-foot library and new elementary school built on property - but only if these referendums pass.
Vote Yes for Libraries
The library referendum is on the ballot for voters to support building five new libraries and improving every other branch in the Charleston system. Once the referendum passes, we will increase from 16 to 18 libraries across the county with new technology, more meeting rooms, study rooms and quiet areas, dedicated children’s and teen areas and a quarter of a million new books and DVD’s. The Vote Yes! for Libraries committee urges all voters to participate in the election today and remember to say yes to new and better libraries. There are four questions at the end of the ballot and the Library Question is third.

Vote Yes for Schools
The schools referendum is on the ballot for voters to support the extension of a one percent sales tax to benefit Charleston schools. With a list of 35 priority projects, the referendum will touch school facilities across the district, providing funding for new construction and the expansion of existing overcrowded facilities. Collected funds will also allow for upgraded technology and improvements to HVAC and roofing for buildings constructed in the last 15 years. The Chamber's Yes4Schools program urges all voters to say yes to this referendum today - helping every school facility and tens of thousands of children with its passage.
