The schools serving residents of Carolina Park are among the area’s newest and most awarded. Together with the future Mt, Pleasant Public Library (currently slated to open in late 2018), these five schools combine to create a "knowledge hub" that provides Carolina Park residents and their families with convenient access to unparalleled and uncompromising educational and informational resources.
The Children’s Center
This private facility offers early childhood education through pre-school. The school opened in 2007 and serves children ages three months through four years in an educational environment designed specifically for young children. Carolina Park Elementary School
Mount Pleasant's newest K-5 school opened its doors to students in August of 2017. With a capacity of 900 students (expandable to 1,200), the school is conveniently located adjacent to Wando High School and just steps away from the future public library, enabling many young Carolina Park residents to bike or walk to school each day.
Wando High School
Occupying nearly 100 acres at the entrance to Carolina Park, Wando High School is among the most highly regarded in the region, earning the Palmetto Gold Award and recognition as one of the state’s highest performing secondary schools. The school’s former principal, Lucy Beckham, was named the 2010 MetLife/NASSP National Secondary School Principal of The Year. And Wando High School was also the 2011-2012 recipient of the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association Director’s Cup for Class AAAA, placing it first among the state’s 48 AAAA schools. Oceanside Collegiate Academy
With an ambitious curriculum and a clear commitment to both academic and athletic excellence, this innovative charter high school is Mount Pleasant's first charter high school and the second high school to call Carolina Park home. For students with collegiate aspirations, OCA provides the unique opportunity to graduate having earned as many as 60 college credits.
Wando Center for Advanced Studies
Located on five acres adjacent to the Wando High School campus, the Wando Center for Advanced Studies serves approximately 600 students. The 126,000 square-foot facility encompasses both classroom and lab spaces for programs such as Automotive Technology, Horticulture, Cosmetology, Health Care, Public Safety/Emergency Medical Services, Childcare, Biomedical Science, Film/Multimedia, and Visual Arts. The facility is shared with Trident Technical College for after-hours instruction, providing high school students with the opportunity to begin earning college credits.
Children can attend Laurel Hill Primary School (rated Excellent, winner of the 2011 SC Literacy Spot Award), and Cario Middle School (#6-rated middle school in South Carolina), both of which are conveniently located right next door in the neighboring Park West community.
Mt. Pleasant Public Library
When complete, this state-of-the-art 40,000 square foot library, located on Carolina Park property adjacent to Wando High School and the new Carolina Park Elementary, will meet the needs of the entire area while serving as a uniquely convenient resource for residents of Carolina Park. Current plans call for a completion date in late 2018.
